Episode 22 - Iranian Women & Gender in the Iran-Iraq War; with Mateo Farzaneh

In this episode of The Fly-Bottle podcast, our host Ata Heshmati chats with Mateo (Mohammad) Farzaneh, historian and professor at Northeastern Illinois University, and the author of Iranian Women & Gender in the Iran-Iraq War, published in 2021 by Syracuse University Press. In this conversation, Farzaneh explains his contributions to the historical studies of the Iran-Iraq war as well as the general debates about women and gender in contemporary Iran. He also shares his reflections about how we have partially ignored the enormous contribution of Iranian women from various racial and class backgrounds to the war, both in the battles and behind the frontlines.

Mateo (Mohammad) Farzaneh is an Iranian historian and associate professor at the history department at Northeastern Illinois University. He received his PhD in 2010 from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
